Consolidating Multiple Websites onto One Secure, Automated Server

We moved three production websites from a retired host to a single hardened VPS, with one-minute automated deployments and nightly offsite backups.

The challenge

After the previous hosting provider was retired, the client’s websites had been offline for months. The apps used different stacks (a Node.js/Express API with server-rendered SEO pages, an Angular admin app and a Next.js marketing site) on a shared MySQL database. Deployments were manual, there were no reliable backups, and credentials were scattered across code and old repositories.

Our solution

We provisioned an India-region VPS and hardened it: key-only SSH, firewall, brute-force protection and automatic security updates. We migrated and validated the database, ran each app under a process manager behind Nginx with free auto-renewing HTTPS, and set up GitHub Actions so every push to the main branch deploys in about a minute, through a restricted deploy key that can only run approved commands. Nightly database and file backups go to the server and to Google Drive, on a daily/weekly/monthly rotation, and a restore has been tested. Along the way we removed exposed secrets from the frontend and consolidated sign-in onto a single OAuth client.
